Tree Trimming & Pruning Services

Extend the life of your trees and protect your home from falling branches.

More Than Just Curb Appeal

While a well-trimmed tree looks beautiful, the real value of pruning is safety and longevity. Overgrown trees are essentially "sails" that catch too much wind during Iowa storms, making them prone to snapping.

At Sigourney Treecare, we don't just hack away branches. We strategically remove specific limbs to:

  • Reduce Wind Resistance: Allowing wind to pass through the canopy safely.
  • Remove Deadwood: Eliminating heavy, dead branches before they fall on your car or kids.
  • Improve Structure: Training young trees to grow with a strong central leader.

Roof Clearence

We cut back limbs that are rubbing against your shingles, siding, or gutters, preventing expensive damage to your home.

We Care About Your Tree's Health

Unlike some operators who damage trees to climb them, we use professional rigging and positioning techniques. We never use climbing spikes on a tree we are pruning—only on trees we are removing—because spikes create open wounds that invite disease.

Trimming & Pruning FAQ

When is the best time to trim my trees?

For most species, late winter (dormancy) is ideal because the tree is sleeping and wounds heal faster in spring. However, dead or hazardous branches should be removed immediately, regardless of the season.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Not if done correctly. In fact, proper pruning stimulates growth and immune health. However, "topping" a tree (cutting the whole top off) is harmful, and we generally advise against it.

Can you trim branches hanging over my neighbor's yard?

Legally, you can trim branches up to your property line, but we always recommend talking to your neighbor first. We can help mediate that conversation and prune the tree so it looks good from both sides.

Do you paint the cuts?

Modern arboriculture research shows that "wound paint" actually traps moisture and encourages rot. We make clean, proper cuts that allow the tree to seal itself naturally.
